You don’t need a hotel room. You don’t need a flight ticket. Sometimes, all you need is a day pass.

Just this weekend, someone asked me what a day pass actually was. And honestly, as someone who books them all the time, I sometimes forget that not everyone knows about them.

One of my favourite things about living in the UAE is being able to spend a day at a five-star hotel’s pool or beach, enjoy a drink by the water and feel like I’m on holiday, all without booking a room. At the end of the day, I just head home, feeling like I’ve had a little escape.

Some passes even include food and beverage credit, or access to facilities like the gym, spa or kids’ club.

If you’re new to Abu Dhabi, or have been living here for years but have never tried one, here’s everything you need to know.

What is a hotel day pass?

A day pass gives you access to a hotel’s facilities for the day, without having to book a room or stay overnight.

In Abu Dhabi, this usually means access to the pool and, at beachfront hotels, the private beach. Depending on the pass, you may also get food and beverage credit or access to other facilities.

What is usually included?

It depends on the hotel, but passes can include:

  • A sun lounger or daybed and towels
  • Pool access, and sometimes beach access
  • Changing rooms and showers
  • Food and beverage credit with selected passes

Always check what’s included before booking, as each hotel has its own terms and conditions.

Can you bring children?

Many hotels offer children’s day passes at a reduced rate. Some also have kids’ clubs or childcare services, either included in the price or available at an additional cost.

Check the age limits and access rules before booking, especially if you’re planning a family day out.

Are day passes cheaper on weekdays?

Often, yes. Weekdays can mean lower prices and quieter pools, while weekends and public holidays tend to be busier and sometimes more expensive.
